It's often said that lighting is both an art and a project, but in summary, the art of design is made up of a set of guiding principles. By understanding these principles, electrical distributors demonstrate their expertise and differentiate themselves. In this way, when they communicate with the owner, they can start with the customer's needs (application scenarios) and end with customer satisfaction (equipment sales).
What lighting can do
Light is something that should be purchased at the lowest possible cost, but at the same time it is a business asset that should be carefully considered to ensure that the right design and product are applied.
The vast majority of our impressions of the world come from our eyes, and light is necessary for vision. Therefore, light is the medium through which most people perceive the world.
Lighting refers to the application of light in a space. The position, relative intensity, and direction of light have a significant impact not only on vision and visual comfort, but also on human perception. In addition to light, the lighting fixtures themselves affect the experience of the space and its owners.
Lighting can impact satisfaction, visibility, job performance, safety, security, sales, mood and atmosphere, aesthetic judgment, and social interactions, as well as tell a story about a space that lets customers know if a store is focused on discounts, high-end products, or a restaurant that sells fast food or a gastronomic experience.
Color perception: For an object to perceive a certain color, its color should generally be reflected in both the object and the light content that illuminates it. Designers pay particular attention to the appearance of the color (generally measured by the correlated color temperature (CCT)) and color fidelity, or the color rendering presented compared to the standard light source (generally using sunlight as the standard light source) (measured by the color rendering index (CRI), the higher the color rendering index, the better the color rendering of the light source, and the stronger the color reproduction ability of the object. The lighting industry is also evaluating a metric that captures saturation. Overall, changing CCT, CRI, and saturation can have a big impact on the appearance of people, objects, and spaces, enhancing, weakening, or even changing their original colors.
Focus: The human eye is naturally attracted to the brightest areas of the field of vision. By focusing higher intensity light on certain features in the space, we can make them the focal point, direct people's attention to them, and establish visual layers. For example, we can facilitate the display of key commodities by focusing on higher intensity light.
Spatial perception: Different light patterns in space can stimulate different psychological responses (as shown in the table below). For example, bright and uniform lighting, with lights on the walls or even the ceiling, can make the space in the hall appear more communal and visually larger. In contrast, low-intensity lighting and a small amount of peripheral light can create intimacy in a good restaurant.
